Fractional CTO

Not every startup needs a full-time CTO, but every startup building a technical product needs technical leadership. We work part-time—typically 2-3 days per week—providing the strategic and hands-on leadership that growing companies need. Architecture decisions, hiring, process development, investor communication, board reporting: we handle what a CTO handles, on a fractional basis.

We’ve seen the patterns: what works at 5 engineers breaks at 20. What works at seed stage creates problems at Series B. We help companies through these transitions before they become crises, building the foundations that support growth rather than fighting fires.

Technical Due Diligence

Working with Philipps & Byrne, we provide technical due diligence for investors evaluating technology companies. Our assessments cover what investors need to know: Is the technology actually differentiated? Can it scale? What’s the technical debt situation? How capable is the engineering organization? What risks aren’t visible in the pitch?

We’ve built the kinds of companies we assess, so we know what to look for. We can tell the difference between reasonable early-stage tradeoffs and genuine red flags. Our reports are direct: here’s what’s good, here’s what’s concerning, here’s what it means for the investment decision.

Architecture and Scaling

Technical decisions made early have long-lasting effects. The architecture that worked for your MVP may not support your growth plans. The technology choices driven by the first engineer’s preferences may not be right for where you’re going. We help companies make these decisions thoughtfully—technology selection, system design, platform strategy—with an eye toward both current needs and where you’re heading.

We've been in your position

We’ve held CTO and CPO roles at multiple startups. We’ve scaled engineering teams, raised funding, presented to boards, dealt with the pressure of runway and the demands of growth. When we advise startup technical leaders, we’re drawing on experience doing the job, not just consulting about it.

Before that, time at McKinsey Digital Labs exposed us to how large organizations approach technology strategy and transformation. That combination—startup execution speed with strategic consulting rigor—shapes how we approach problems. We can move fast when that’s what’s needed, and we can step back to think systematically when that’s more appropriate.

We’re based in Berlin, in the middle of the European startup ecosystem. We work with companies across Europe and beyond, but we understand the specific context of building technology companies here: the talent market, the investor landscape, the regulatory environment.
